The Darkest Nights

The darkest nights,
Now exist as my brightest.
My dreams now, but memories
On a bright blue day
Of summer, I dance in the rain
Thunder pouring down around me
And lightning without me.
This world fades out,
I fade in, and changing
Become what I fear the most
Into this image not of
The mind's eye, but into the
Gray surface of the water
Rippling away I float down this
Stream of time, held up for
A brief senseless moment,
And released to sink into
This space of darkness
Where stars don't shine
And winds fear to blow
Lest they wake a far worse
Enemy than that which exists
Only within this world of mine
To which only I, and I alone
Walk the shores of empty light.
This path I walk, I see no end,
The beginning too far, too late,
The ways too well traveled,
Crawling, I seek to leave
This world, this blight,
Of which I know nothing of,
Seeking so much to find so little,
So curling like the fog in tide
I become the mist, a wraith wandering
The ways of the Lost ones...
Have I seen within my sight
The doorway to my gates of Hell,
Lying open, exposed. Traverse not the walkways
Of the fallen angels, the whispers echoing
Echoing, bouncing back, I rise anew,
To drift between the shifting shadows,
Yet again a faceless figure of
Insubstantial dreams.
